2020 marks a very important milestone in the history of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland, OH. This year marks the 25th anniversary of when the doors to the museum were opened to the public, now making it eligible for induction to the Rock Hall. Okay, while the museum might not be appearing on any voters ballots any time soon, the silver anniversary of the hallowed institution is not going unnoticed. While 2019 saw over 563,000 visitors to the museum, along with 2,300 artist visits and 100 days of live music on the plaza, 2020 promises to turn things up with what they have planned. In addition to the 2020 induction ceremony, the Hall has special exhibits, a film series, concerts and more planned to keep the party going all year long!!!
The Class of 2020

The ceremony at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, OH will only be one part of the week long induction celebration. Induction Week kicks off on April 25th and will go thru the induction ceremony on May 2nd. The week will feature a Celebration Day for Cleveland locals to visit the museum, a special Class of 2020 exhibit, a plaque dedication ceremony with the inductees and, of course, plenty of live music! There will also be an induction watch party at the Hall of Fame Museum for those who can’t be in attendance at Public Auditorium.
Play it Loud: Insturments of Rock & Roll
On November 22, 1999, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame launched their Play It Loud: Instruments of Rock & Roll exhibit which celebrates the iconic musical instruments that brought life to those classic songs we all know and cherish. This exhibit is the largest ever at the Rock Hall and spans across four floors. Play it Loud features guitars from Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and many more. You will also see the keyboard John Paul Jones used to record the Led Zeppelin classic,”Stairway to Heaven,” Eddie Van Halen’s rig from 2013 and vintage posters from historic concerts.
The Garage
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recently opened the interactive The Garage exhibit. In this experience, visitors to the Hall can handle and learn to play real instruments, jam a song in a band experience and create cool custom merchandise with their band’s brand. And these are no ordinary instruments. You can shred on a Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster. If acoustic is more your speed, you can strum a beautiful Martin guitar. And no pushy salesman is going to give you a hard time. It will be easy to spend a lot of time in this particular exhibit, so plan accordingly. The best news is that the Garage is going to be a permanent fixture at the Rock Hall.
Rock Hall Nights
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame normally closes it’s doors for the day at 5:30pm. However, on select Wednesday nights the Hall will open from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for Rock Hall Nights. This is your chance to have a whole new experience after hours in the Hall for special events. February saw the Hall celebrating Mardi Gras. March 4th’s event is called “On The Radio” and explores the history of rock and roll and radio while testing visitor’s knowledge of songs. The April 1st event will give attendees a chance to check out the Play it Loud and Garage Exhibits while also enjoying featured From the Vault artifact presentations. Check out rockhall.com/nights for more info on these events.
Oh So Much More
These are just a few highlights of what the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is offering this year. And of course, there will be plenty of live music events sponsored by the Rock Hall throughout the year.
